Jesus had the power to effortlessly create any life He wanted for Himself, including satisfying His most basic human need: hunger. Instead, every miracle He performed (including His resurrection) was for the benefit of others. Yet, Jesus never used His power for Himself. Jesus, as the Son of God, never had to imagine having such abilities because He harnessed all creative power. The whispers of discontentment are harder to silence than the shouts of our darkest fears. While we may not possess some magical ability to easily manifest our dreams, that certainly doesn’t stop us from trying to hush our discontentment with our present state of affairs. I’m fine not being able to transport myself to exotic places so long as I can attain what many of us red-blooded American families want-a forever house, a healthy and whole family, a well-trained dog, two date nights a month, a white-picket fence, and…okay I’ll stop there. I’d settle for the power to get Zoom meetings done in under an hour and closer parking spaces at Target. You can have your beaches and castles just give me the wand that stops my kids from arguing, my back from aching, and my bills from coming. However, I’d honestly settle for a more practical form of power-like the ability to clean the yard and cook dinner with the snap of a finger. Imagine being able to transport yourself to any place in the world, or even beyond, simply by willing it into existence. Or perhaps you might conjure a luxurious castle, with grand halls and elegant furnishings, fit for a king or queen. You could create a feast fit for royalty, complete with sumptuous delicacies and sparkling drinks, all with just a flick of your wrist. With this extraordinary power, you could materialize your wildest dreams and fantasies, bringing them to life in the tangible world. Imagine having the incredible ability to manifest anything your heart desires simply by pulling it out of thin air. “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” – Matthew 4:3
